Certification Exam Score Reports
Periodically, NAHUC will not provide immediate pass/fail examination results as AMP will be conducting quality assurance (QA) evaluations to ensure the examination results provided are valid. During these times, candidates will receive a provisional score report and the pass/fail score reports will be mailed 8-12 weeks later after the QA assessment is completed.

What is the purpose of certification?
Certification as a health unit coordinator by the NAHUC Certification Board provides proof to your employer, other health care professionals, the public, and your peers that you have demonstrated the basic knowledge and skills in areas of health unit coordinating. Certification can be a source of recognition nationwide, an aid for career advancement, and a condition of employment.
What are the eligibility requirements?
Anyone who is currently a health unit coordinator or has completed training to become a health unit coordinator or anyone who is involved with unit coordinator activities may test for certification. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Candidates for certification need not be members of NAHUC, but we strongly encourage all health unit coordinators to join NAHUC so that they may participate and receive the benefits of their professional association. You may request a membership application from the NAHUC office or download from the NAHUC web site.
How do I register for the national certification exam and obtain the handbook?
The first step is to obtain a candidate handbook by visiting the web site at www.nahuc.org or contacting the NAHUC national office via phone or email. The candidate handbook contains vital information and should be kept for reference until after you receive your certification.
How is the exam developed?
The exam is prepared, administered, and graded by a testing agency, Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP). The Exam Development Committee of the NAHUC Certification Board (a representative group of practitioners, educators, supervisors) writes and reviews all test questions before they are used on exams. This committee helps to provide the job related perspective that underlies valid exams.
How do I prepare for the certification exam?
An outline of the material to be tested, a list of study materials, and sample test questions are included in the candidate handbook. The exam questions are based on the certification exam content outline created from the national job task analysis. The content outline is also posted on the web site, www.nahuc.org.
When and where is the exam held?
AMP offers year-round electronic testing in most states and provinces. Check the list of exam sites for the location most convenient for you. You can call AMP at 888-519-9901 or www.goamp.com for locations. For an additional fee, a facility can proctor the exam at their facility.
How is the exam scored?
All tests are reported as “scaled scores” to insure that all candidates have the same advantage regardless of which test they take. The questions are multiple-choice and are adjusted for minor differences in difficulty.
How soon will I get the results of the exam?
All candidates who sit for the electronic exam will typically
receive a score report at the test center after completing the
exam. Paper and pencil exam score reports are usually mailed within six weeks of the test date. NAHUC periodically performs quality assurance (QA) procedures to ensure the validity of candidate’s scores. Because of this QA process, candidates may occasionally receive provisional score reports at the test center. If you receive a provisional score report, you will receive an official score report after the QA is completed, usually within 6-12 weeks.
When will I receive my certificate?
You will receive your certificate approximately six weeks after you have received your score report .
How may I obtain the certification pin?
Send your name, address, certification number, and year certified with the fee indicated on the order form to NAHUC.
What are the requirements for maintenance and renewal?
Certification is granted for three years. To maintain certification status, each CHUC must recertify during the third year following initial certification and every three years thereafter. A reminder notice is sent prior to expiration; however, it is each individual’s responsibility to accumulate the necessary credits prior to his/her expiration and submit the recertification application and fee before the expiration date.
Recertification will be awarded in the following manner:
1. Contact Hours Earn 36 NAHUC contact hours during the 3-year period and apply for recertification
(Fee: $75 non members/ $50 members).Exam Retake and pass the certification examination
